The waves at Edgewater
I was supposed to go home after an appointment, but I wound up going to Edgewater Beach instead. It’s quiet there now. All of the boats are covered up for the season and the beach house is largely abandoned.
I can’t wait for summer.
When I drove over there, I was shocked to see the size of the waves on Lake Erie. But I shouldn’t have been that shocked; the wind speeds topped 60 mph today and yesterday.
I only had the 50mm with me today as I’m really trying to challenge myself and use only one focal length for a while. The 16-55 zoom lens would’ve come in handy, though. I could’ve gotten some wider shots of the beach. But that’s one of the good things about using the 50mm. You can’t just shoot. You probably have to move around in some way to get the shot you want.
I only stayed over there for about 45 minutes because of the cold. I need to invest in some better gloves. I did invest in a pair of thermal merino wool leggings so hopefully they’ll keep my legs warm the next time I go out.
About the photos
I used Faizel Westcott’s Amber preset for most of these photos. I think the analog 2.0 preset pack is generally meant for street photography, but I find the Amber preset is good for shots by the water. It enhances the blues, I think.
The challenge I encountered while shooting was waiting for some waves to hit the rocks. I kept my shutter speed hovering between 1/500 and 1/1000 for the most part.
My favorite photo is probably the one I took of the group up on the pier. I used Forrest Mankin’s Retro 2 preset for that one.
