Squirrels and squirrely weather
I hate winter. Have I mentioned that before? Because I do.
I’ve honestly been feeling demotivated to go outside and take pictures. It’s been wet, rainy, and gray outside. We haven’t had our first major snow of the season, but I know it’s on its way. I’m currently listening to 50-60 mph winds outside of my apartment during this weird rain/ice mixture that’s been coming down all day.
Thankfully, it wasn’t raining that much while I was outside. And I also got a hot shoe cover for the XT-30, so I feel a little bit more comfortable being out in mildly inclement weather.
Mildly.
I can’t help but wish that I’d gotten into photography seriously earlier in the year. If I had, I could’ve spent all of spring taking photos. All summer. And really gotten to enjoy the fall season. But oh well.
In just two months time we’ll be leaving most of this behind until next year. Until now, I’m sitting here at home praying to the electricity gods to keep my lights on.
Anyway, I had some time to spare before my guitar lesson today, so I spent some time shooting around a familiar location: University Circle. I’d really like to branch out and find new places to shoot.
While I was outside, I took some shots of the University Circle United Methodist Church. I took a picture of it at the height of the fall season. Unfortunately, the focal length is different between the two photos. But you can still see how beautiful the trees were in the fall.
There was a squirrel foraging around Wade Lagoon, and it was kind enough to pose for me while I took some photos. Another squirrel eventually showed up and joined the picture. I wish I’d used a lower aperture so both squirrels were in focus. But it’s hard to think about these things when your fingers are freezing in the cold.
About the photos
I wasn’t necessarily taking photos with intention today. I did try some framing in the last photo in this bunch. But overall, I was mostly looking to pass the time.
As I mentioned before, I do wish I’d used a lower aperture while photographing the squirrels. It was nice to get close enough for some nice photos, though. That’s the benefit of using the 50mm.
