Landscape photography in Lakewood

Yesterday, I went to a photography workshop. The focus of the workshop was landscape photography. I was definitely keen to go, especially after going on so many hikes recently. Taking pictures of nature is something I really enjoy.

The first part of the activity was to take some photos along Edgewater Beach. It was extremely cold and windy, which made it a bit hard to enjoy the activity. I spent the whole time sniffling and stuffing my hair under my hood so I can see. But I think I managed to get a few good pictures. I used my 27mm pancake lens.

Our instructor, Nathan, also introduced me to electronic level. He said some of my photos seemed a little bit tilted. I found the setting hidden in the screen setup menu. I think it’s pretty useful, especially for landscape photography.

The second part of the activity was to take some photos of the lake. There were two barges out on the water, which is why our instructor wanted us to shoot there. Unfortunately, my photos didn’t come out all that well because my zoom lens only goes to a 45mm focal length. You can’t see much of the barge in my photos. So now, I’m shopping around online to see if any stores are having good sales on lenses for Black Friday. I’m eyeing the 16-80mm f/4 lens myself.

If anything, the second activity was a great introduction to working with a tripod. My father used to have several tripods for family photos.

I’m still on a quest to improve my composition. Hoping I can find one or two events to go to so I can get out of my comfort zone.
