Planes n’ people at the Cleveland Air Show

I’m getting old.

Yesterday, I went to the Cleveland Air Show downtown and spent way too much time on my feet. It’s a whole 24 hours later and my feet are still sore, even with good walking shoes.

Anyway.

This year was the air show’s 60th anniversary! I can’t believe the show’s been running as long as my parents have been alive.

I got downtown pretty early in the day as I’m someone who prefers to get the best parking possible so I can leave when I’m ready to go. It was nice and quiet when I got down there around 9 a.m. I ran into Lou Pumphrey, the Ohio Coordinator for the US Peace Memorial Foundation. He graciously allowed me to take a picture of him and his peace flag.

I spent the majority of the day on my feet (big mistake), but it was worth it because I spent most of my time with a fellow photographer, Asia, and we walked around taking pictures of planes and people.

One thing we were talking about was our shooting preferences. Asia says she loves to be at events like this whereas I prefer to focus on one person at a time in smaller, more intimate venues. I find it hard to craft meaningful shots while I’m walking around. She’s really great at spotting moments in motion.

Still, I gave it the old college try and came away with some shots I’m pleased with. I really wish I had a longer focal length on me. The longest I had was 75mm. Most photographers were probably using 200-300mm.

I don’t really see a need for a telephoto zoom lens as I’m not usually photographing events like this. However, in the event I do, it would be great to have a telephoto lens. I’m photographing an event next week and I know I’m going to need a telephoto lens.

Also, I hated that I had to change out lenses. If I’m on the go I just want to take one lens with me. Hopefully I can find something used because those new Fujifilm prices are nuts.

Still, it was a good time. I wish I could’ve seen the Blue Angels again while I was downtown, but my feet told me to go home. Also, my dad cooked up some food on the grill, so that I had even more reason to head out.
