Life lately

It’s been a while since I wrote a blog post here. Hello!

It’s been a fairly busy month since I last posted. I think I’m going to list everything that’s happened as a bulleted list because I am a technical writer by trade.

  • I was invited to an open mic night in Bedford, and my cover was waived in exchange for taking a few pictures. When I got there, the greeter asked if I was the photographer. That was a great feeling.

  • I traveled to Gary to see my best friend and her family. She has a very adorable daughter with pinchable cheeks. While I was there, I took the train down to Chicago for the day and hung out with my other best friend. I really love Chicago and see it as Cleveland on steroids. I’ve been wanting to move out for there for some time, but I need a job first, and that’s the blocker. But I’m hoping to get there in the next year or so.

  • I went to a poetry writing workshop and wrote a poem I’m pretty proud of.

  • I started posting pictures of the events I go to on Pixieset. I did some research and it seemed that Pixieset was a very popular tool photographers use to book sessions and sell photos. The motivation for using Pixieset was that some people were asking if they could pay for the photos I took of them. Until now, I had no easy way to post pictures from an event and then sell them. So far, I’ve had a great experience with Pixieset. And my gallery pages is filling up with awesome photos from all the events I’ve been to.

  • I’ve been researching how to build a small, budget portrait studio in my apartment. Doing some kind of self-portrait project would be fun. I went to Dodd Camera to get some gear, but I didn’t know what I needed. After doing some research, it seems like I need a stand, something to hold my flash, a softbox or umbrella, and then a trigger for the flash. I’ve got all the gear sitting in my Amazon account. I’m trying to figure out if I should pull the trigger or not. I have a small corner in my office that I could use as a studio. I’m not really using the office for work these days, anyway. It would be an easy way to get some experience with lighting and portraits.

I think that’s it. This week, I don’t have much planned beyond applying for jobs and working on a small side project. I’m going to start blogging here again.

Here are some pics from the past month.
