Deanna does New Orleans: a recap
The week started off rough: we spent over five hours traveling to NOLA between getting to the airport and dealing with layovers. When we got to New Orleans, it was gray, windy, and humid outside. The weather honestly refused to make up its mind throughout the week, just like Cleveland. It was warm one minute and chilly the next. I think the weather gave me a slight cold.
Anyway.
During our trip, we visited the World War II Museum, the aquarium, the zoo, Lafeyette Square, Jackson Square, and Harrah’s Casino. I personally enjoyed visiting Jackson Square because it’s an obvious tourist hotspot, but it’s also the home of a Café du Monde stand. Their beignets are snack sized, perfectly fluffy, crispy, and sweet.
Jackson Square is also close to the Mississippi River, so we got to take some great pictures by the water.
Unfortunately, I don’t think I had a great eating experience down in NOLA. Some of the restaurants we visited were complete misses. Thankfully, we did find some good eats: Ruby Slipper Café for breakfast and Napoleon House for dinner.
Okay, that’s a quick recap of the visit. Let me talk about pictures.
~
I told myself that I was going to shoot with intention on this trip. Not just shoot for the sake of taking a photo, but to try to really think about my pictures before pressing the shutter button. Unfortunately, that plan didn’t really work out for one major reason: I was traveling with family, and we had places to go! So I really was taking pictures when I could. I set the shutter speed as high as it could go when we were walking around. If I stopped to take a photo, I was usually left behind.
The upside of being a tourist is that I felt more emboldened to take pictures of everything, including people. Heck, I’m a tourist. I’m here to tour. I am going to take photos. So I took pictures of buildings, of people, of scenery. It was nice to blend in!
Anyway! Of the ~600 photos I took, I added some to the new travel section in the nav menu. I’ll be traveling to Oxford, Ohio in June, and possibly Nashville over the summer, so hopefully that section will grow.
