Alaskan landscapes
Last Sunday, I met up with Asia for a photowalk along Euclid Beach. I was toasty in bed when she texted, and I contemplated continuing to be toasty, but I haven’t gone on a good photowalk in a while. And who doesn’t want to hang out with Asia? So I put on my wool leggings, grabbed my parka, and headed out.
(I had to stop by the Cleveland Bagel Company first. Got a #2, cheddar cheese, plain bagel, toasted. Life is better with the Cleveland Bagel Company. If you haven’t been, you should go).
Euclid Beach Pier
It was very cold when I got there. Not too much snow, thankfully. The sun was out that day, which made the morning a bit better.
While outside, we ran into a woman and her dog, and there were some people exercising on the steps of the pier. There were also some lovely colored chairs along the pier that would’ve made for a nice postcard if I had my 18mm on me.
Asia and I agreed that it looked more like Alaska than Cleveland out there. I don’t know if it was the quiet, the ice-covered lights in the water, or what. But for a minute, I definitely didn’t feel like I was in Cleveland.
While shooting, my X-T5 gave me a hard time, probably because of the cold. I kept getting this f0 error. There was a blurry image on the LCD, and the only way to fix the issue was to reattach my lens. A quick Google search showed me that this has happened to other people, and it might mean shipping off my camera to Fujifilm. To be honest, I’m avoiding doing it because I don’t want to be without a camera. However, my warranty is up soon, so I probably should just in case.
This might be a good week to send it off, anyway. We’re in the middle of a polar vortex that’s going to send temperatures 5-15 degrees below zero. So I doubt that I’m going to be outside at all. In fact, I’m prepared to hole up in my apartment for the next two days. If I leave, it’s to get some groceries and go straight home.

I do miss when I used to go on photowalks. In early 2024, that’s all I did. Photography was new to me then.
Almost every day after work, I threw on my wool leggings, grabbed my camera, wiggled into my parka, and went downtown to shoot. I spent most of my time wandering up and down E 9th, photographing anything and everything. It was all about getting out there with my camera. I went downtown, I went to the Metroparks…and once it got warm, the cherry blossom festival, Holden Arboretum. Just going places.
Lately, I feel like I don’t go shooting for the sake of shooting. I’d like to get back to going outside with my camera and just taking pictures, you know?
I think the part of the reason why I don’t is because I’m so busy. I probably need to look at my schedule and find a block of time where I can go shoot for a few hours.
Enough rambling. Here are more pictures from the morning. It literally looks like Alaska.
